MAY 12, 2010 - Unless CIGNA is able to reach a new contract agreement, the University of Alabama Birmingham Health System (UAB), will no longer participate in the CIGNA network as of May 9, 2010. CIGNA and UAB continue to work together to reach an agreement. However, if UAB does leave the CIGNA network, there is important information you need to know now, especially if you, or a family member, are receiving ongoing treatment at one of the hospitals. Please check with CIGNA on or after May 9, 2010, to confirm if UAB is still part of the CIGNA network, and read the Notice of UAB Termination for details.

The UAB termination includes the following hospitals and health care professionals:

• University of Alabama
• UAB Highlands
• Spain Rehabilitation Center
• The Kirklin Clinic
• UAB Health Centers
• UAB Health System physicians

This termination also affects physician services at Children's Hospital of Alabama. This termination does not affect services at UAB Medical West in Bessemer, Alabama.
