Annuity Trust Implements Multi-Factor Authentication

MAY 5, 2009 - The Boilermaker National Annuity Trust is introducing a new security feature called Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) that is designed to make electronic account information more secure than ever.

MFA is an electronic information security measure that confirms identity by gathering additional information when logging in to an account. The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC), the government body empowered to create uniform standards for federal examination of financial institutions, has strongly recommended movement towards MFA for all financial institutions. Many consumers are already experiencing MFA with online banking or credit card accounts.

Participants who access their Annuity account information online need to change their User Name and Password and register their computer during the MFA registration period which is May 5 - June 19, 2009. Click here and log in to register for MFA. For more information on MFA, read the MFA Plan Sponsor Message. If you have additional questions, contact Customer Care at 866.342.655, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. CST.

MFA FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a new security feature for your online Annuity account. It adds an extra layer of protection when you log on by verifying additional identification information.

Why is my log on process changing?

The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council regulations require all internet banking Web sites to implement MFA. While we are not currently required to comply with these guidelines for Annuity plan accounts, we want to be proactive to ensure the most secure Web experience for our Annuity plan participants.

When is the registration period for MFA?

The MFA registration period is from May 5 - June 19, 2009. During this time, you will need to enter your personal contact information and register your computer(s).

What happens if I do not register during the registration period?

If you log on for the first time after June 19, 2009, you will receive a message stating, "We need to verify your identity." You will then be prompted to obtain an Activation Code.

If we have your contact information on file, you can simply request your Activation Code delivery method (phone, text, or e-mail) at the bottom of the screen. Using that Activation Code, you can log on with your current Username and Password. You then need to complete the registration process. You only need to register once per computer.

If your contact information is not on file, we cannot send you an Activation Code. You will need to call Customer Care at 1-866-342-6555 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday to request your Activation Code.

I already registered my computer but now you're prompting me for an Activation Code. Why?

When you register your computer, we take a snapshot of it by placing a cookie or Flash object on your computer. Updating your computer, delecting all cookies or cleaning your computer set-up files may make your computer unrecognizable the next time you log on even though you have registered it. If your computer is not recognized, you will need to request an Activation Code and register it again.

How am I more secure with MFA?

With Single Factor Authentication, anyone with your Username and Password has access to your online account. With MFA, even if someone has your Username and Password, that person cannot access your account unless he or she is at your registered computer. If an attempt to access your account from another computer is made, the system will not recognize it and an Activation Code will be required.

What if I am using a public computer the first time I log on?

It's recommended you do not register a public computer. You will have the option to not register that computer when you log on.

I only use public computers. Will I still be able to access my account online?

Yes. Each time you log on to your account from a public computer, you will need to request an Activation Code.

Log on to your account as you normally would. If we have your contact information on file, you can simply request your Activation Code delivery method (phone, text, or e-mail) at the bottom of the screen. It should only take a few seconds to receive your Activation Code. Once you receive your Activation Code, you can log on with your current Username and Password.

If your contact information is not on file, we cannot send you an Activation Code. You will need to call Customer Care at 1-866-342-6555 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday to request your Activation Code.

Can I register more than one computer?

Yes. You can register as many computers as you need. You only have to register each computer once and that information will be stored for the next time you log on from that computer.

I share my computer with someone who also has an Annuity account. Can we log on from the same computer?

Yes, you will both need to register the computer and enter your individual Username and Password.

Does it matter what internet browser I use?

Yes. MFA is only compatible with Internet Explorer and Firefox. If you have another internet browser such as Safari, you cannot access your Annuity account online.

Does it matter what cell phone provider I use?

Yes. If you are a T-Mobile customer you may not be able to receive an Activation Code by text message. We are currently working with T-Mobile to find a solution to this issue.

Can I "un-register" my computer?

Yes. If the security of your computer has been compromised, you can unregister your computer. You can call Customer Care at 1-866-342-6555 from 7 a.m to 5 p.m CST, Monday through Friday to un-register any computer currently registered under your Username.
